The Little Green Detox Smoothie

The “Little Green Detox Smoothie” has the ingredients to jump start your health journey and help you feel better all around. What is it about the color green that makes us feel like what we’re eating is healthy? I honestly don’t know, but I do feel like I’m making a good decision when I have this little number to start my day. Most of the smoothies I’ve had in the past have tasted more like a dessert. Don’t get me wrong. I love a sweet smoothie, but this is refreshing. Plus, it’s not too filling.

Here’s the important stuff. Three health benefits you’ll receive from these ingredients:

  • Lemon juice. Drinking lemon juice first thing in the morning can help jump start your metabolism causing you to burn fat at a higher rate. It’s also been proven to help with indigestion. If you have an indulgent lunch or dinner, it could help your stomach feel better.
  •  Ginger. If you’re drinking this for some stomach relief, ginger will for sure help, and that’s why this smoothie includes a little ginger powder. Starting your day with this ingredient makes a great addition for your workout as well.. Ginger creates a detoxifying component in your sweat called dermcidin, a germ-fighting compound that helps reduce bacterial infections.
  • Collagen (optional). I listed this ingredient as optional, because it can be a little tricky if you’re vegan. You can receive a ton of health benefits from this though, two of which include hair health and anxiety relief. Hair growth has a few critical components, collagen being one of them. My hair became healthier after adding it into my diet. Additionally, collagen contains glycine. This tiny amino acid has been linked with balanced stress hormone levels therefore reducing anxiety for some.

Ingredients:

  • 1 scoop Arbonne protein (or vanilla protein of your choice)
  • Handful of power greens (spinach, kale, or other greens of your choice)
  • 1/2 apple (sliced)
  • 1 celery stalk
  • 1/3 cup frozen pineapple chunks
  • 1/2 cup coconut water
  • Lemon juice to taste
  • Sprinkle of ginger powder
  • 1 scoop collagen (optional)

Directions:

  1. Combine greens, celery, apple, and pineapple chunks into blender.
  2. Add protein, powdered ginger, collagen (if using it), coconut water, and lemon juice.
  3. Blend until all ingredients are well-mixed.
  4. Enjoy a delicious, detoxifying smoothie!

Tip Glossary
Tip #1: If you’re feeling bloated, drinking this smoothie without the protein could be a great idea. If you go this route though, I would add in about 5 ice cubes.
Tip #2: If you have time to make this with fresh ginger, you’re only going to need a little bit. Start with a small amount. A burst of ginger in a sip of smoothie is never pleasant.
